The invention relates to an earthquake reducing building block (1) having a base surface (2), a cover surface (3) and N contiguous side surfaces (4), and on both the base surface (2) and the cover surface (3) there is a topography created from parallel triangular plates (5, 6). The object of the invention is to provide a component which can be produced cheaply, is suitable for the production of higher load-bearing masonry, but whose shock-absorbing effect is significant, because the assembled blocks can move significantly apart in the direction of the horizontal component of the displacement vector and then return to their original relative position.
